Confusing words: Words With No Plural Forms

 

Many students who are learning English are very surprised to learn that the words information, knowledge, and jewelry have no plural forms. These are called uncountable noums:

patriotism (and the other -ism words)

  1. I take issue with several of these. Money can be defined in the plural form as monies, meaning sums. Work would become works i.e. building works are ongoing. Travel, as in I am going on my travels. Insurance, i.e. I need a variety of insurances to run my business. I would suggest that aircraft, fish and sheep would be good additions though.
